Felipe Court

Director, Center for Integrative Biology

I studied biology in Chile working as an undergraduate in the lab of Dr. Jaime Alvarez in local protein synthesis in axons. I then moved to Europe and obtained an MSc and later a Ph.D. at Edinburgh University working in the labs of Dr. Richard Ribchester and Dr. Peter Brophy. Holding an EMBO postdoctoral fellowship, I moved to the lab of Dr. Laura Feltri in Milano, Italy.

My research has been focused in studying the relationship between glial cells and neurons in different biological processes, including axonal degeneration, regeneration and intracellular transfer of cargoes. For this, we use models of axonal degeneration and regeneration in vivo and in vitro, including models of optic and sciatic nerve regeneration and spinal cord injury.

Daniela Rebolledo

Senior Research Assistant

I am a Biochemist from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) and PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the same university. My PhD thesis research was performed at the Physiology and Biophysics department, University of Washington. My research has focused on the physiology of the neuromuscular system and the pathological mechanisms behind neuromuscular disorders of diverse etiology.

Karina Girardi do Carmo

Postdoctoral fellow

Biologist, Ph.D., and MSc in Cell and Molecular Biology from Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz/RJ). Studying age-dependent decline of regenerative capacity in the peripheral nervous system. Mainly focusing on the contribution of metabolic profile of aging Schwann cells in senescence and particularly exploring the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) like process.

Felipe Véliz Valverde

PhD Student

Msc Neuroscience. Neurobiology PhD student at Universidad Mayor. I´m interested in understand the  effects of exercise in the aging brain. Skeletal muscle can crosstalk with the brain by myokines, triggering neuroprotective effects.  The aim question of my work is whether some myokines can protects against axonal degeneration by a necroptotic-dependent mechanism.

Camila Duran

Research Assitant

Molecular Biotechnology Engineer from the University of Chile with experience in the study of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of Cdk5 (kinase) involved in peripheral nociception, specifically in its participation in orofacial pain signaling (odontoblasts, trigeminal ganglion and spinal trigeminal nucleus).

Renata Gallardo

Research Assitant

I studied Medical Technology at the Universidad Mayor acquiring knowledge in histological techniques, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. I am interested in learning more from the world of neurosciences and related pathologies to find new treatments to improve the quality of life in aging.

Karina Reichel

Research Assitant

I am a biochemist from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, with experience in techniques of cellular and molecular biology. I am studying the interaction and regulation between the m-TOR pathway and a process called necroptosis.

Rodrigo Leiva

Research Assitant

B.Sc(hons) degree in Neuroscience from the University of Glasgow and M.Sc in Integrative Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh. I’m currently working on the role of axonal necroptosis and inflammation in the dopaminergic neurons of the nigrostriatal pathway in Parkinson’s Disease to assess it as a potential therapeutic target through the inhibition of RIPK3.

Laura Goméz

Research Assitant

Medical Technologist from the U. Mayor. With experience in histological techniques, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, biochemistry and molecular biology techniques. I am currently working on the role of RIPK3 in axonal degeneration in genetic models of Parkinson’s Disease , through Michael J. Fox’s project.

Patricio Contreras

Undergraduate Student

Biotechnology student from Universidad Mayor, I’m currently doing my undergraduate thesis in neuronal ensembles, trying to understand how these ensembles can help us understand the role of necroptosis in ageing, specifically in cortical neuron cells, and how can these effects be treated with geroprotectors and AAV delivered shRNA’s.
